Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival 2015

Jazz and Blues has its roots in the rich African American culture and history of the United States of America. However this distinct sound has evolved and can now be heard all over the world. Now you can hear it, even in the Caribbean and that small but distinguished island of Jamaica has also laid its claim on this ever growing genre of music. The annually held Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival has now formed part of some of the well known and well attended events and attractions of Jamaica.

Originally this event started with the intent of getting more visitors to the island, in Jamaica’s slower travel periods. In November of 1996 it was then known as the Air Jamaica Jazz Festival. The country’s local Airline at that time sought to find a new way to boost the brand of Jamaica to the world and innovatively gave birth to the beginnings of the now famous Jamaican Jazz and Blues Festival.  Starting with just a conservative turn out the festival has since then changed its ownership, changed the usual time period in which it was kept  and has grown into something that can only be called spectacular. The festival was moved to the end of January so as to evade the rainy season which occurred during the months of October and November which was the initial choice for the event. The festival also fell into the hands of Walter Elmore the CEO of Turn Key Promotions which allowed the event to flourish to the high and exceptional standard it is at right now.

Every year the caliber of artists showcased in this music festival seems to only get better. Their talent and popularity like a magnet, attracts larger and larger crowds of music enthusiasts from home and abroad. Famous artistes such as Celine Dion, John Legend, Michael Bolton and Erykah Badu, Grammy winner Toni Braxton and Chrisette Michele are just a few examples of the musical feasts audiences receive year after year.Another voice that commanded the stage is that of the well loved Aaron Neville.
