Rio Grande River Rafting Tour – Port Antonio Jamaica
One of Jamaica’s most popular tourist attractions is going rafting on the river Rio Grande. This practice began to transport bananas from plantations further inland to other harbors, such as the one on Port Antonio. This was popularized as a recreational activity by famous Hollywood actor Errol Flynn.
Jamaica Get Away Travels brings to its customers’ river rafting that begins from Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, or Kingston, and goes all the way to Rio Grande River. The total travel distance is approximately six miles or ten kilometers, and the travel time can total around two to three hours.
We also offer special pick and drop off services for visitors from their respective hotels to the port. The journey is made unique by the beautiful and quaint scenery alongside the river, which includes lush greenery as well as locals using the river water for cleaning, bathing, or just some fun.
Each raft is made out of bamboo, which is around four feet wide and approximately 30 feet long. Hence, the raft can accommodate two people at the same time only. Rafts-men pole the rafts throughout the journey, who are expert captains of the area.
Alongside the river, you may also encounter locals selling refreshments, as small canteens are also commonplace in the nearby area. There are multiple spots during the journey, such as the “Lover’s Lane,” which is a popular site for couples. Tourists are also welcome to go swimming in the river during their journey.
