Things To Do in Ocho Rios – Turtle River Park
The Turtle River Park located in the lush and fertile parish of St Ann is the perfect get away for a quiet relaxing day. Right in the town of Ochi Rios lies an almost secret oasis. Turtle River Park stretches over a property of 15 to 20 acres of land. There, flows a river with 14 natural waterfalls and pools. Its cool rich environment is home to many rare and exotic flowers and plants. This magical atmosphere led to the park being once known as the Enchanted Gardens.
The property was historically owned by the noted Jamaican Prime Minister, the right honorable Edward Seaga. Before being renamed in June of 2010 as Turtle River Park, this hidden sanctuary was “the” place to stay and dine. Presently though, Turtle River Park is not without its magnetic draw and it does well in attracting local and international visitors to come and enjoy the gardens and its stunning waterfalls.
This beautiful Park also provides fun and excitement for bird lovers and children as it unexpectedly sports a large Aviary which hosts a large number of exotic birds. Children squeal in delight and adults are tickled as birds land on their heads and arms. You are provided with bird food and encouraged to feed the animals. These birds are friendly and not shy, they eagerly surround you in search of food and feeding them can become the most fun part of the trip.
Taking tours of the park is especially fun. There are two tours that you can enjoy with a professional and courteous guide who can help you roam the grounds of the property and learn about the unique and beautiful flowers and plants of the garden. An adventurous hike up the scenic falls is welcomed and you can get refreshed and rejuvenated in its cool flowing waters. Want to get more swimming done? Take a dip in the luxurious pool with a swim up bar.
If you love animals then your visit to Turtle River Park is not yet through and you can take in beautiful Koi fish ponds, which adds to the overall serene feel of this peaceful area. Turtle River Park can only be described as a gorgeous mixture of excitement and tranquility; it offers what you need, for a real Jamaican get away.
